We originally put this post up on November 21, 2012 — but it still seems relevant to us!
…You live in the US and you’re still looking for that perfect recipe for tomorrow, look no further!
Why not try Green or Yellow Usquebaugh, Red or Black Cherry Wine, or, perhaps if you’re planning a brisk afternoon walk, some Portable Soup? All from H.I. Harwell’s The Domestic Manual. If your guests are a little fractious, perhaps try some Contentment or Glow-Wine from Lewis Feuchtwanger’s 1858 Fermented Liquors.
If you’re planning a more traditional dinner, perhaps Maria Rundell’s advice On Dressing Meats from A New System of Domestic Cookery will be more helpful.
Can’t forget side-dishes! Try Henry Lewis’ New and Cheap Art of Bread-making for ideas on making brown or white bread to go with your dressed meat, portable soup, or contentment!
For afters, you could try one of the dessert recipes — perhaps syllabub, clove drops, or raspberry cream — from Colin MacKenzie’s Five Thousand Receipts in All the Useful and Domestic Arts.
